ARTIST WORKING IN CONTEMPORARY STUDIO CERAMICS, UNIQUE STATEMENT JEWELLERY AND MIXED MEDIA WORKS ON PAPER

CERAMICS

The ceramics are unique artworks and each is conceptualised and created as an individual piece.

I throw on the wheel and hand build vessels, using porcelain and stoneware. I love the physicality of working with clay and I am focused on simplicity of form combined with layered surfaces and light and dark contrasts.

These build into landscapes and abstract pattern and design, with accents of gold or bronze or reds.

PORCELAIN JEWELLERY

The jewellery pieces are individually designed and hand created to be clean and modern with an emphasis on the surface pattern and shape.

The unique decorative finish is created using printmaking and resist layering techniques along with hand-painting designs onto the pieces.

Each statement piece is an individual wearable artwork in miniature, unique and contemporary in style.

MIXED MEDIA

I use printmaking, painting and wax encaustic to create abstract works that evoke landscapes or scenes of light and contrast, mapping and capturing a moment.

I am drawn to creating small cropped compositions which distill the essence of movement or a scene or a memory, images which remind me of a time and place.

These are artworks in their own right but are also used in my ceramics and jewellery.

I am a multidiciplinary artist woking in ceramics, jewellery design and 2D work on paper, and these works are all interconnected.

Themes that link the works are mark marking and  contrasts in colour, light and shadow, evoking abstracted landscapes or patterns. I often work in series but each piece is unique and stands as an independent design or creation.

My work is always influenced by my location: travelling and exploring new environments is hugely important to me. Maps and journeys are all interwoven into my work, as are materials such as wax, gold and thread, as part of the making process, or as seen in the finished piece.

Please look at my About and Stories page for background on me, details of the studio conversion and photos and ideas taken from my travels.
